PRINCETON, NJ--(Marketwire - Feb 28, 2013) - Inspire, the patient engagement company, announced today that Genetic Alliance will partner with Inspire to create the Inspire/Genetic Alliance Rare Disease and Genetic Conditions Support Community (http://geneticalliance.inspire.com).
Genetic Alliance is the world's leading nonprofit health advocacy organization committed to transforming health through genetics. It will work with Inspire to expand the focus of the peer-to-peer community to include genetic conditions.
"We originally created this community with NORD and its founder, Abbey Meyers," said Brian Loew, co-founder and CEO of Inspire. "We thank Abbey and have tremendous appreciation for her vision. Today, we extend this community to include all genetic diseases, and in doing so we cannot imagine a better partner, more dedicated to this cause, than Genetic Alliance."
This partnership enables Inspire and Genetic Alliance to expand the focus and depth of the community while enhancing current members' ability to exchange information and support with others affected by rare diseases and genetic conditions. Genetic Alliance's mission includes empowerment, education, and dialogue, and this peer-to-peer community is built on those principles, Loew noted.
"We are very excited to create this dynamic partnership with Inspire," said Sharon Terry, Genetic Alliance president and CEO. "This will give individuals with genetic conditions a variety of ways to interact with one another. Over our 26 years, we have created dozens of tools for individuals affected by rare and genetic diseases, and look forward to sharing these resources with this support community."
The Inspire/Genetic Alliance Rare Disease and Genetic Conditions Support Community now has over 13,000 members from more than 100 countries. Member profiles include over 4,000 distinct medical conditions. The group is highly engaged -- members have written over 41,000 posts in the past two years alone. Across all of Inspire's support communities there are well over 40,000 members affected by a rare disease.
