MetaMetrics Includes Illustrative Mathematics Tasks in Their Online Resources

DURHAM, NC--(Marketwire - Mar 11, 2013) -  MetaMetrics®, developer of The Quantile® Framework for Mathematics, has added the Illustrative Mathematics tasks to its bank of free resources. MetaMetrics carefully evaluates all of the materials it offers to ensure they not only align to the Framework and to the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (Standards), but are useful tools for parents and teachers.

Illustrative Mathematics is a project housed at the University of Arizona under the direction of Dr. William McCallum. Its mission is to develop a discerning community of experts who work together to produce mathematical tasks and other content that illustrate the type of experiences students should have when the Standards are faithfully implemented. It is collaborating with MetaMetrics to ensure proper assignment of Quantile® measures to its tasks.

Teachers can use the Quantiles.com website to access Illustrative Mathematics and other resources through the "Quantile Teacher Assistant" and the "Math Skills Database" on www.Quantiles.com

All resources are tagged with a Quantile measure that describes the mathematical demand of a skill or concept and also the student's mathematical achievement level. The Quantile Framework differs from other measurement systems in that it evaluates mathematical achievement and the difficulty of mathematical skills and concepts on the same developmental scale. Quantile measures describe a student's readiness for instruction and indicate which skills and concepts the student is ready to learn as well as those that will require more instruction. Teachers and parents can use this information to connect the student with resources that meet his or her unique learning needs and to determine if the student is on track to pass end-of-year assessments and be ready for the demands of college and careers.

"Mathematics education is vital to the health of our nation," said Malbert Smith, III, Ph.D., President and co-founder of MetaMetrics. "Using Quantile measures to match students with Illustrative Mathematics' instructional activities at the right developmental level will help prepare students for college and careers. We're pleased to be able to work with the Illustrative Mathematics team and help serve our mutual goal of improving education for all."

Linda Plattner, Executive Director for Illustrative Mathematics, stated that, "We very much admire the work and reputation of MetaMetrics and are glad to see our work shared by such an esteemed organization. Implementing the Common Core is very hard work and we appreciate the contributions MetaMetrics makes to this effort."
