Annual Florida Medical Device Symposium Set for May 6-7th in St. Petersburg, FL - Event to Highlight America's 3rd Largest Medical Device Cluster

Dr. Jeffrey Shuren, CDRH Director, Announced as Keynote Speaker


TALLAHASSEE, Fla., March 11, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Florida Medical Manufacturers Consortium (FMMC) today announced that Dr. Jeffrey E. Shuren, Director of the FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) will be the keynote speaker at the annual Florida Medical Device Symposium on Monday, May 6, 2013, in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Dr. Shuren became the director of the CDRH in January 2010, having served as Acting Center Director beginning in September 2009. The CDRH is the branch of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) responsible for assuring the safety, effectiveness, and quality of medical devices.

The Florida Medical Device Symposium, hosted by the Florida Medical Manufacturers Consortium (FMMC), will be held May 6-7, 2013 at the Hilton Carillon Park in St. Petersburg, Florida. This two-day symposium is Florida's primary educational and networking event for medical technology companies, and has gained a reputation as the premier think-tank for creating solutions to strengthen the medical device industry in Florida. The 2013 symposium will mark the 10th anniversary of the FMMC.

Symposium attendees will hear from Mark Leahey, President and CEO of the Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA), who will provide a comprehensive update on key federal legislative and regulatory issues impacting the medical device industry. The symposium will also feature industry panel discussions and presentations on topics such as Differentiating Your Contract Manufacturing Firm; Towards a Roadmap for Medical Device Startups; and a special CEOs Roundtable: The State of the Medical Device Industry. Vendor company exhibits and networking receptions will round out the agenda.

Attending the Symposium will allow numerous opportunities to meet customers, suppliers, partners and prospects. The symposium will provide excellent exposure and access to medical device professionals and decision-makers over the two-day event.
