SCOTTSDALE, AZ--(Marketwire - Mar 20, 2013) - At their Scottsdale dentistry practice, Drs. Jonathan Coombs and Don Chiappetti invest in the most technologically advanced equipment and biocompatible materials available. In an effort to create more effective restorations for their patients, the two dentists utilize the CEREC® system to perform in-office porcelain restorations in a single visit, placing their private practice at the forefront of CAD/CAM dentistry.
Developed by Sirona, the CEREC® device utilizes computer-aided technology to design and mill customized porcelain veneers or crowns in about two hours. Recently, Sirona released a new software upgrade for CEREC® in which the Scottsdale cosmetic dentists have also invested. Dr. Coombs says the upgrade further enhances the system's imaging capabilities and precision, ultimately enhancing the look and function of porcelain restorations for their patients.
Prior to acquiring the CEREC® device, Dr. Chiappetti says the entire porcelain restoration process required patients to make several visits to the office while their veneers or crowns were being constructed. This advanced technology, he adds, now eliminates the need for multiple visits and condenses the time frame for porcelain restorations to a single day.
Dr. Coombs notes that the CEREC® device also has the ability to preserve more of the patient's natural tooth structure than traditional porcelain restoration methods. During treatment, CAD/CAM technology is used to capture 3D images of the original tooth and then custom-design the restoration based on precise measurements. Once the restoration has been designed, Dr. Coombs says it is milled on-site and then placed on the prepared tooth with fewer injections and less drilling.
In the end, Dr. Chiappetti says, "CEREC® has revolutionized the way we treat our patients." The state-of-the-art equipment allows the Scottsdale dentists to create stronger, more natural-looking restorations for patients in a fraction of the time traditionally needed. Ultimately, Drs. Coombs and Chiappetti say they will continue striving to employ the latest advancements and newest technologies in order to provide each patient with the most effective results possible.
