LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 2, 2013) - Fame is influence. Actors, athletes and musicians all have one thing in common -- exposure. Their lives are led in the public domain, giving their audiences unrestricted access to what they do, where they go, how they shop and what they endorse. Entertainment PR firms face the challenge of fine-tuning this influence through media to fulfill the needs of their clients.
This was the hot topic as Eileen Koch of Eileen Koch & Company sat down for a roundtable discussion (via www.PRWeekUS.com) with PRWeek alongside PMK*BMC, United Talent Agency, 20th Century FOX Films, Starz, Red Bull Media House, The Axis Agency, BMI and YouTube to talk about the status of the Entertainment industry today and what is means to be a content-conscious "brand."
With the rise of social media, celebrities and budding businesses alike can now deliver content straight to their followers without using traditional mediums, a unique development for PR professionals.
"Not everybody is the 'theatrical' celebrity," Eileen observed. "They could be chefs or hairdressers. Social media has opened the door for the 'average person' looking to gain publicity and build their business."
The panel also highlighted how Facebook, YouTube and other websites have changed companies' approach to media strategy. Traditional publications still allow easy access to industry professionals, but Entertainment firms have to be savvy enough to work with clients that self-publish through blogs and remain true to their online "voice."
"My big focus [in the future] will be client education on the latest technologies and getting them to understand their values," Eileen stated.
With media outreach the proof is in the pudding, but convincing clients that their money is well-spent remains a top priority. Data is always reassuring, but sometimes difficult to produce. "It's still hard to show clients the value of what we do," Eileen said, "but if we can get there, it takes us up another level."
The roundtable discussion was jointly hosted by PRWeek and PMK*BMC, and was the first to feature the heavy hitters of Los Angeles' Publicity and Marketing industry.
