When Lincoln Library of Sports Champions was first published in 1973, the goal was to produce a series of biographies that would be accessible to students of all reading levels. One of the editors was particularly motivated, having been a struggling reader as a young student and later, a football star. In 2013, the ninth edition of the popular series included historic and popular current champions, such as Tim Tebow, Gabby Douglas, Drew Brees, and Missy Franklin.
