Internet Radio Streaming Service Provider Awarded 5th "Instant-On" LightningSTREAM(tm) Streaming Media Patent

SurferNETWORK Announces New Addition to "Buffering Patent Portfolio", Fundamental to Internet Streaming

Flanders, NJ, April 9, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Internet streaming vendor and innovator of multiple Internet technologies, SurferNETWORK announces the award of U.S. Patent No. 8,327,011 on Jan. 24, 2013. This is a companion to the four previous members of SurferNETWORK's Buffering Patent Portfolio, expanding the scope of coverage of that Portfolio.

The Buffering Patents cover technologies that are fundamental to modern streaming of both audio and video. Essentially, this technology enables Instant-On LightningSTREAM™ for Internet streaming of both live broadcasts and on-demand streaming from files.

According to SurferNETWORK founder and holder of numerous patents, Mr. Harry Emerson, "While the buffering technology is a bit complicated to explain, the net result is that it enables streaming to start immediately, rather than the user having to wait while data is loaded up before playback can begin. Before we invented this technology streaming was clumsy and aggravating, and many people were too frustrated to even bother with it. Now streaming is ubiquitous, and our technology is one of the primary enablers."

Asked about this new patent, company president, Mr. William Grywalski, said "SurferNETWORK has always been a leader in streaming, and this new patent with LightningSTREAM™ features will again confirm that position. We have other patents issued and pending in related technology fields, and the combination of all of them demonstrates that SurferNETWORK is the innovator and intellectual leader in the field of Internet radio broadcasting".

The other patents in the Buffering Portfolio are: U.S. Pat. No. 6,766,376 issued July 20, 2004; U.S. Pat. No. 7,716,358 issued May 11, 2010; U.S. Pat. No. 8,122,141 issued Feb. 21, 2012; and U.S. Pat. No. 8,185,611 issued May 22, 2012.
