- Garcia wins championship at ISA's World Masters Surfing Championship in Montanita, Ecuador
MONTANITA, Ecuador, April 15, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Azuñia Tequila's athlete Sunny Garcia wins International Surfing Association's (ISA) Grand Masters Gold Medal at the ISA World Masters Surfing Championship. Sunny Garcia is the center-piece of Azuñia Tequila's "Celebrate the Adventures of Life" marketing campaign. Garcia repeating his win from 2012, just championed a world title not only for himself, his sponsors but for the Hawaii. Twenty countries had athletes competing in the championship. Competing countries included: USA, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, France, Great Britain, Hawaii, Japan, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, South Africa, Spain, Uruguay and Venezuela. The competition was held April 6th – 14th in Montanita, Ecuador.

"Going into this competition I was very focused on repeat gold medal," said Sunny Garcia, former ASP World Champion. "This season I have been training intensely. Garcia was slated to compete in the Men's Grand Masters (over-40) in the ISA's Ecuador World Masters Surfing Championship. Going into the finals the competition was fierce. Throughout the competition Garcia was pulling scores: R1 11.93, R2 17.10, R3 14.67, R4 8.94, and R5 15.0 on the day before the finals. Heading into the finals with a solid scores Garcia was in position for a possible medal if he met the challenges of the day. During the finals Garcia received 17.06 in points which earned him the gold medal.
