WAKEFIELD, RI--(Marketwired - Apr 23, 2013) - ChartWise Medical Systems, Inc. (www.chartwisemed.com), an innovative Computer-Assisted Clinical Documentation Improvement (CACDI) software company, is pleased to announce the successful adoption of its signature product, ChartWise:CDI, at Gwinnett Hospital System, Inc. (GHS). The Georgia-based healthcare network has already seen tremendous results in the short time since integrating ChartWise's software and anticipates continued growth in their CDI program moving forward.
In January of 2013, prior to implementing the ChartWise:CDI software, the clinical documentation improvement team at Gwinnett Hospital System conducted a total of 774 initial chart reviews looking for any additional documentation in the chart that might change the severity of illness/risk of mortality or DRG, along with 439 follow ups to see if the physician had answered their clarification query. In March, the first full month since integrating the new CDI program, the same team was able to complete 1,445 initial reviews and 1,850 follow ups.
"Going in, Gwinnett Medical Center already had a state of the art CDI program, one of the finest I've ever seen," said Dr. Jon Elion, founder and CEO of ChartWise. "We've been able to achieve these incredible results so quickly because they were well set up to properly leverage all that ChartWise:CDI has to offer."
Gwinnett Hospital System, Inc. provides first class treatment and facilities, but it became apparent last year that the healthcare network would benefit substantially from a more cutting edge CACDI software solution. Five providers were considered before ChartWise was ultimately selected for its user friendly software and innovative approach to documentation clarification.
"We saw enormous potential for a tool that could streamline workflow by automating some of our manual processes," said Maria Mann, Clinical Documentation Integrity Manager and RN, BSN, MSHL, CCDS, CCS with Gwinnett Hospital System, Inc. "Once we had the opportunity to test the ChartWise:CDI software, our CDI staff, IT staff and physicians present all felt strongly this product would increase productivity through a more simplified documentation review process. The ease of use factor in particular was eye-opening and contributed significantly to ChartWise's selection."
ChartWise's ChartWise:CDI program is a web-based application which provides hospitals and medical centers with essential software to optimize the quality of the clinical documentation, mitigate the threat of RAC audits, achieve revenue optimization, ensure compliance and oversight and streamline the entire CDI process. The software was developed with the end user in mind and contains myriad user-friendly features, including cross-functionality capabilities which allow the user to view the ICD-10 equivalent of an ICD-9 code in advance of the transition to ICD-10 in 2014 -- a feature of significant interest to Gwinnett Hospital System, Inc. The software will also allow the user to view the ICD-9 equivalent of an ICD-10 code once the changeover to ICD-10 has been made.
Gwinnett Hospital System, Inc. is a 553-bed, not-for-profit group of hospitals and medical facilities that provides a wide array of high-quality services to Lawrenceville, Duluth, Johns Creek and the Atlanta area. The healthcare network is comprised of more than 4,100 employees and 800 affiliated physicians and is consistently ranked among the top 5 percent in the nation for clinical quality.
