McDonald's(R) Adds New Egg White Delight McMuffin(R), Expanding Wholesome Breakfast Choices

OAK BROOK, IL--(Marketwired - Apr 23, 2013) -  McDonald's is introducing the new Egg White Delight McMuffin, and the option of freshly grilled egg whites with white cheddar on any egg and cheese breakfast sandwich, in restaurants nationwide this week. At 250 calories, the new breakfast sandwich is prepared fresh on the grill with 100% egg whites, extra lean Canadian bacon and white cheddar* served on a new muffin made with eight grams of whole grain. The new Egg White Delight McMuffin follows the March launch of the Premium McWrap -- both menu introductions are part of McDonald's ongoing efforts to evolve its menu with more great-tasting, relevant food choices.

To celebrate how McDonald's is flipping customers' breakfast favorites with freshly grilled egg whites, the company is teaming up with flipping expert and U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist, Gabby Douglas.

"As an athlete, it's important that I start my day off right with a wholesome breakfast," said Douglas. "I'm a big fan of the Egg McMuffin, so I'm excited that I can now order my favorite McDonald's breakfast sandwich with egg whites."

The introduction of Egg White Delight McMuffin supports McDonald's "Commitments to Offer Improved Nutrition Choices," announced in 2011. The new muffin delivers eight grams of whole grain and the extra lean Canadian bacon provides protein, helping customers incorporate foods from the United States Department of Agriculture's MyPlate recommended food groups. McDonald's offers many wholesome breakfast choices that are 300 calories or less, including the classic Egg McMuffin, Fruit & Maple Oatmeal, Fruit N' Yogurt Parfait, and now the new Egg White Delight McMuffin.

To give customers even more reason to try the new breakfast choice, McDonald's is offering a coupon for $1.00 Egg White Delight McMuffin through digital ads and on certain to-go bags in restaurants for a limited time. There will also be a print ad with two coupons for a free Egg White Delight McMuffin with any purchase. The suggested retail price is $2.69.

All breakfast sandwiches are now available with egg whites and white cheddar, including: Egg McMuffin; Sausage McMuffin with Egg; Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit; Sausage Biscuit with Egg; Bacon, Egg & Cheese McGriddles; Sausage, Egg & Cheese McGriddles and Bacon; Egg & Cheese Bagel. Freshly grilled egg whites are also available for substitution on McDonald's breakfast platters.
