Richmond Orthopaedic Surgeon Operates in New Ambulatory Surgical Center

Dr. Jan-Eric Esway Is Now Performing Surgeries at Boulders Ambulatory Surgery Center, Consolidating Many Patient Services in the Same Building and Increasing the Quality of Patient Care

NORTH CHESTERFIELD, VA--(Marketwired - Apr 25, 2013) - Dr. Jan-Eric Esway, an orthopaedic surgeon in Richmond, has been practicing medicine since 2000 and is experienced in the latest methods of foot and ankle surgery. Recently, OrthoVirginia and the HCA Virginia Health System opened a new ambulatory surgery center where Dr. Esway will continue his mission to remain at the forefront of orthopaedic care.

Boulders Ambulatory Surgery Center, or BASC, is a new, state-of-the-art surgery center located in the same building as Dr. Esway's office. In addition to its convenience of location for Dr. Esway's patients, BASC will also be outfitted with the newest medical equipment and technology in the field of orthopaedics.

According to Dr. Esway, this new surgical center is much more efficient than a hospital. He says the amount of time patients and their families spend at BASC on the day of their surgery is typically about half of the time they would spend at a hospital for an identical procedure. Additionally, he notes that the facility also features easy-access parking with an elevator leading directly to the lot.

On Thursdays -- his surgery days at BASC -- Dr. Esway will now be in the same building as his main office. On occasions when patients have a problem or a question after surgery, he says they can now have the benefit of being seen in his office the same day he is in the operating room. The Richmond orthopaedic surgeon also highlights that the new surgical facility even makes it possible for some patients to have their surgery the same day as their office visit in certain circumstances.

BASC will include Arthrex Synergy arthroscopic equipment that allows arthroscopic pictures to be downloaded directly to an iPad. Dr. Esway says this technology gives patients and their family a way to see what was done during surgery and increases their knowledge about the procedure.

For patients requiring physical therapy, CJW Sports Medicine can also be found in the building with BASC, conveniently consolidating the sites of patient care. Dr. Esway highlights that CJW Sports Medicine is a state-of-the-art therapy center, equipped with an underwater treadmill and the latest technology for gait analysis. Therapists at CJW Sports Medicine also have the ability to watch a patient's surgery, which he says can be extremely helpful for the therapist while planning a patient's rehabilitation.

Dr. Esway, a surgeon who feels a well-educated and patient-focused team is vital for the success of his Richmond orthopaedic surgery practice, believes that performing surgeries at BASC will increase the level of care he and his team are able to provide their patients. He adds that the new facility will enable him, and his staff, to practice a true team approach to patient care by offering so many services in the same building.
