National PTA Announces Judges for Student Art Program

2012-2013 Reflections Review Panel Represent Prestigious and Diverse Arts Organizations From Across the Country

ALEXANDRIA, VA--(Marketwired - May 2, 2013) - National PTA today announced the judges for its 2012-2013 Reflections Program. A total of 36 judges were selected to review submissions for the annual student art contest, this year themed The Magic of a Moment. The National PTA Reflections review panel consists of experts in dance, film production, music composition, literature, photography and visual arts from across the country.

The esteemed panel of national judges hails from a range of various arts backgrounds. National PTA selected the judges to reflect diversity in organization type, size, location, and specific artistic genre for each arts category represented in the program. A sample of this year's judges include:

  • Sonya Robbins-Hoffmann, VSA Program at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
  • Dawn Deeks, Positive Exposures & National Geographic
  • Chris Wrobleski, Paramount Pictures
  • Cristine Davis, Arts Education Partnership
  • Megan Merchant, Washington Performing Arts Society
  • Tim Hill, United States Navy Band
  • Melissa Lineburg, Dance/USA
  • Sarah Browning, Split This Rock Poetry Festival

"We are honored to have this incredible group of experts as part of our Reflections review panel this year. We created the program to give students the opportunity to express themselves through art as well as to explore opportunities for career paths. What better way to inspire these young minds than to showcase their work to some of the most brilliant artistic professionals in the industry," said Betsy Landers, PTA National President.

Judges review entries in two rounds, Preliminary and Final. The top winners of each grade division in the preliminary round move on to the final round to determine the overall outstanding interpretation award winner in each arts category. The national winners will be announced in May 2013 and will have their artwork featured in a virtual PTA Reflections gallery and at an exhibit at the Dept. of Education in January and February 2014.
