NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - May 7, 2013) - 10gen, the MongoDB company, today announced that MetLife, Inc. selected MongoDB as the data engine for "The Wall", an innovative customer service application that went live last month.
Similar to the Facebook User Interface, The Wall provides a 360-degree, consolidated view of MetLife customers, including policy details and transactions across lines of business. The Wall improves customer satisfaction and boosts call center productivity.
MetLife built a working prototype in two weeks and was live in U.S. call centers in 90 days. Currently, The Wall handles 45 million agreements with 140 million transactions.
By surfacing customer data in The Wall, MetLife has shown how global companies can simultaneously leverage the data from 70+ existing systems with the flexibility of emerging technology. The MetLife team employed both traditional and modern technologies, exhibiting agility in applying solutions to dynamic needs.
"MetLife is transforming the way it operates using state of the art technologies to drive business results and provide the best possible experience for our customers," said Gary Hoberman, CIO and Senior Vice President, Regional Application Development, MetLife. "Introducing technology like MongoDB to our development teams created a buzz and excitement that motivated and empowered teams to deliver work in months that would typically take years."
After The Wall's early success, additional MongoDB and other Big Data projects are underway at MetLife. As part of an effort to revolutionize the 145-year-old company, MetLife has committed a significant portion of its global reinvestment fund to help leapfrog the industry through emerging technology.
"MetLife is one of the first in the financial industry to take advantage of Big Data in a meaningful way," said Max Schireson, CEO at 10gen. "The speed at which a company of MetLife's size was able to bring The Wall from conception to production is very impressive. MongoDB's data model and flexibility enabled rapid development on par with that of an agile start-up, transforming how MetLife engages with customers."
As one of the most popular new technologies, MongoDB has more than 4 million downloads, 50,000 Online Education registrations, 15,000 MongoDB User Group (MUG) members and 10,000 attendees at MongoDB global events in 2012.
MongoDB is the open-source, document database popular among developers and IT professionals due to its agile and scalable approach. MongoDB provides a JSON data model with dynamic schemas, extensive driver support, auto-sharding, built-in replication and high availability, full and flexible index support, rich queries, aggregation, in-place updates and GridFS for large file storage.
