Gina Crotts started Birth Mother Baskets after placing her own child for adoption. She didn't want a birthmom to leave an agency or hospital with empty arms. Gina said, "I will never forget the car ride home, after placement, with that empty car seat and the overwhelming feeling of loneliness. I thought no one would ever fully understand what I was going through." She started sending a gift basket to birthmoms to say, "You are not alone, you are loved." A Birth Mother Basket contains items like lotions, candles, make-up, jewelry and a journal etc. Gina, along with Birth Mother Baskets Vice President Jenny Treanor, chose each gift item with a purpose, to pamper each birthmom. With twelve years of experience creating baskets, Jenny and Gina know firsthand what a birthmom needs to feel supported.
Together they formed a 501(c)(3) and started a blog where people could request a Birth Mother Basket. Jenny and Gina built Birth Mother Baskets to the point where the needs outweighed their resources. With a heavy heart they stopped sending baskets on January 31, 2013. Mark and the CAIRS team discovered the Birth Mother Basket blog and thought their program was fantastic. They immediately reached out to Gina requesting a meeting to see if there was something they could do to help. CAIRS will provide technical support and sales resources that will allow this valuable service to become self-sustaining. Gina and Jenny will be active with blogging, speaking, and overseeing the day to day operations of Birth Mother Baskets.
