WAYNE, Pa., May 26, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- A Wayne animal hospital is endeavoring to focus on serving its community in a variety of ways that go beyond standard pet care, according to its veterinary practitioners. Dr. Leonard Donato, owner and veterinarian, states that Radnor Veterinary Hospital has made community involvement a priority as part of its overall mission of service to pet owners. "We feel that it's important to give back to this community that has given so much to us," says Dr. Donato, "so we're delighted to be able to provide that extra degree of education, outreach and support."
Dr. Donato of Radnor Veterinary Hospital explains that many of the programs the hospital provides directly benefit local animals. "We provide affordable vet services such as spaying and neutering," says the Wayne veterinarian. "Spaying and neutering is an essential pet wellness care procedure, not only for reducing overpopulation but for preventing reproductive cancers and behavioral problems in pets."
He adds that the hospital also concerns itself with the safety of runaway pets. "We're the 'go-to' organization for Radnor Township Police when they find runaway or stray dogs and cats. They know we'll take them in and give them the best of care," says Dr. Donato.
The animal hospital views proper pet licensing as an important and often neglected aspect of pet wellness care, which is why it educates its clients on the importance having their pets properly registered and licensed. The hospital is currently working with Pennsylvania State Government to advise owners as to the value of licensing their pets and the proper procedures for doing so.
Dr. Donato has served on the Radnor Township Board of health for six years. He became a member of this board to help educate the local community on proper pet ownership relating to township laws, as well as to increase awareness on wildlife issues in our area.
The hospital's outreach extends to the veterinary profession itself. "We are working with local elementary schools and volunteer groups, teaching them about the veterinary profession and hopefully stimulating an interest in what we do," says Dr. Donato. "We want to play a role in creating the next generation of skilled, caring veterinary personnel." The veterinary hospital is also providing hands-on training and education to interns and externs studying veterinary medicine by partnering with universities.
According to Dr. Donato, these efforts at community outreach and education are a natural extension of Radnor Veterinary Hospital's core mission. "Veterinarians, pet owners, local government and educational institutions can all work together to make a better life for our animal population," he says. "In my opinion, the amount of time and care we're willing to invest in our pets' health says a lot about who we are as a community."
