BALLSTON LAKE, NY--(Marketwired - Jun 6, 2013) - Dr. Colin Morton, a Clifton Park area dentist, focuses his practice on progressive dentistry and exceptional, natural-looking results. As a believer in a healthy, beautiful smile's ability to boost a patient's self-confidence and reinforce one's sense of well-being, Dr. Morton offers porcelain veneers and veneer restorations. Using these procedures, he seeks to help his patients obtain the best dental health and overall appearance possible.
Dr. Morton highlights a recent case study to illustrate the capabilities of a veneer restoration. Although this patient had porcelain veneers 15 years ago to fix his gray and brown stains, the old veneers were transparent and the stains were still visible. In addition, the patient's original veneers were not well-contoured to fit his natural teeth.
When the patient came to Dr. Morton for porcelain restorations, Dr. Morton made mockups of the size and shape of the patient's teeth. Before performing any additional cosmetic work, Dr. Morton recommended the patient seek out an orthodontist in order to straighten his teeth. He recognized that the patient's flared out tooth would need to be realigned to avoid a future root canal and improve the patient's bite.
The patient completed a year of orthodontics before returning to Dr. Morton for his cosmetic concerns. In most cases, Dr. Morton would prefer to use porcelain veneers for the cosmetic restoration of tetracycline-stained teeth. However, in this particular case, the staining was so bad that porcelain crowns offered the best solution. Although the patient originally came to Dr. Morton seeking new veneers, Dr. Morton said: "For this patient and his unique situation, crowns offered the chance for better long-term cosmetic results."
After removing the patient's old veneers, Dr. Morton prepped his teeth for crowns. The temporary restorations completely masked the patient's tetracycline staining and were aesthetically superior compared to the original veneers. According to Dr. Morton, when the patient saw the temporary restorations, he broke down in tears of joy because he never believed he would see his teeth look normal again.
Dr. Morton ultimately placed ten crowns on the patient's upper teeth. The patient is now waiting for his final restorations, but in the meantime, he is quite happy with the size and shape of the temporary ones. Dr. Morton recommends to all of his Clifton Park and Saratoga Springs cosmetic dentistry patients that they address their general dental health issues, such as bite alignment, before seeking cosmetic enhancement. He believes that healthy teeth and gums are the base of any beautiful smile.
