BERLIN--(Marketwired - Jun 14, 2013) - Today Triposo announces new features for its iOS app that give travelers a fresh new way to explore many of the small towns and beautiful, remote sites scattered across the globe that traditional guidebooks often leave out.
More than 22,000 towns from around the world have been added, with practical information like where to find a pharmacy and how to use public transportation. Additionally, the new app features almost 400,000 new points of interest including museums, natural landmarks and historical sites. The release includes a complete overhaul of the interface as well, giving travelers the ability to more quickly find basic information they need as well as to dig deeper to learn about the details they find interesting.
"Our mission is to build a travel guide that you can use anywhere on the planet," said Douwe Osinga, CEO and co-founder of Triposo. "Since people travel to many locations that are outside the major cities and towns, we've focused on making this version of our app the ultimate source of information about the many fun, authentic small towns, rural areas and off-the-beaten-path sites that exist all across the globe."
Triposo's app rejects the traditional hierarchical structure of travel guides, where countries contain cities which contain sites of interest. This oversimplification can lead to travelers missing out on some of the coolest places the world has to offer. Instead, Triposo has reorganized their guides to help people organically discover all the great attractions nearby, whether in a world-famous city or a tiny hamlet most people have never heard of.
Moreover, people can now discover these great attractions outside of the major cities in a variety of different ways using Triposo. They can browse through the guide for the town they are in, explore using detailed skobbler-powered maps or check out personalized suggestions for each area.
In addition to the new towns and their points of interest, Triposo has added almost 50,000 new attractions, including many that exist in some of the most remote parts of the world. These places include hidden waterfalls, castles perched high on a hilltop and restaurants tucked away in the countryside; they're all included in the app with the hope of giving travelers the information they need to get out of the city and experience each place like an intrepid explorer.
In addition to new content about small towns and regions, Triposo has also added some really cool new features for big cities. First, users can browse a city's points of interest based on the time period in which they were built or the architect who designed them. This gives travelers a historically accurate sense of how a city has changed over time and allows those passionate about particular time periods or design styles to get more in-depth information. Secondly, users can zoom into a specific area in town and learn all about it, giving travelers the option to get to know particular neighborhoods really well as they explore a new city.
"The architecture feature may be a bit geeky, but it's such an exciting way of exploring a city," said Osinga. "It really helps you to look at a town with new eyes. You can read about an architect or the style of a certain time period and you'll be able to appreciate what you see that much more. It even works in your own town. For example, I lived in Amsterdam for 10 years, but exploring the town by visiting all the buildings designed by Hendrick de Keyser gave me a totally new perspective on it."
Triposo's app for iOS is compatible with both iPhone and iPad, and can be downloaded here.
