Orlando Plastic Surgeon Custom-Tailors Arm Lift Techniques to Meet the Unique Needs of His Patients

Dr. James Matas Takes Into Account the Unique Concerns and Body Types of His Patients While Designing Arm Lift Treatment Plans for His Orlando Plastic Surgery Patients

ORLANDO, FL--(Marketwired - Jun 19, 2013) - Dr. James A. Matas, an Orlando plastic surgeon, has been providing the patients of the Advanced Centre for Plastic Surgery successful cosmetic results for the past 30 years. Offering a wide range of procedures from breast augmentation to liposuction, Dr. Matas understands not only patients' expectations but also their preconceptions about body rejuvenation. He highlights that arm lifts, which are sometimes thought to be a "quick" body contouring procedure, is a bilateral operation that actually requires just as much evaluation and planning as a tummy tuck in order to produce aesthetically pleasing, long-lasting results for the patient.

When Dr. Matas sits down with his patients for an arm lift consolation, the conversation is as involved as with any other body contouring procedure. These preoperative consultations cover questions such as:

  • Is the patient medically suited to undergo a 3-4 hour surgical procedure under general anesthesia?
  • What are the characteristics of his or her skin?
  • Is there also fat that requires liposuction?
  • Does the patient have a BMI less than 30?
  • Does the patient need to lose weight before the procedure?

Dr. Matas notes that in order to maximize the results of an arm lift procedure, the patient's arms should ideally be toned and their BMI should be less than 30. However, Dr. Matas also evaluates patients who are not necessarily "ideal" candidates to educate them about measures they might take to increase the likelihood of becoming an arm lift candidate in the future.

According to Dr. Matas, the specific techniques employed in an arm lift procedure are custom-tailored depending on the needs of the individual patient. Upper arm cosmetic improvement can include:

  • Liposuction
  • Radiofrequency treatments with liposuction
  • Radiofrequency treatments without liposuction
  • Skin resection
  • Skin resection with liposuction

Dr. Matas reports that the determining factors for the techniques employed during the procedure include the patient's medical condition, skin condition, presence of localized fat, and whether the patient is willing to undergo an invasive procedure versus a noninvasive treatment like radiofrequency. While non-invasive treatments require a series of sessions for maximal improvement, more aggressive treatments require general anesthesia and vary in the duration of the surgery. Dr. Matas points out that longer surgeries are usually more expensive due to surgery fees, anesthesia fees, and operating room charges based on the duration.

The recovery period for Dr. Matas' Orlando plastic surgery patients varies depending on the arm lift treatment plan that is performed. In general, the recovery times mimic the duration and the complexity of the treatment performed. Most patients are able to resume all activities -- including upper body exercises -- within 6 weeks.
