COSTA MESA, Calif., June 28, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Morgan Drexen Integrated Systems (http://morgandrexen.com) will donate all proceeds from its monthly "Denim Day" fundraiser to victims of the recent Oklahoma tornadoes. Employees will be encouraged to wear jeans to work on Friday, June 28, in exchange for a $5 donation. All money raised will be donated to the United Way of Central Oklahoma, which is coordinating a "May Tornadoes Relief Fund." On May 20, a colossal tornado ravaged the town of Moore, OK, killing 24 people and causing widespread damage. Less than two weeks later, on May 31, the widest tornado in American history swept through an area near El Reno, OK, killing 18 people. The twin tragedies destroyed or damaged more than 13,000 homes and caused billions of dollars in damage, and many Americans are wondering how they can help.
"The devastation endured by the people of Oklahoma is simply heartbreaking," said Walter Ledda, CEO of Morgan Drexen. "The images of mass destruction that flashed on our TV screens were almost too surreal to believe. I know our employees share in the sentiment that anything we can do to help, we should do."
Morgan Drexen recently announced that "Denim Days" would become a regular monthly occurrence, to be held on the last Friday of every month. The fundraiser regularly raises hundreds of dollars for charity. The most recent "Denim Day," held in May, raised over $615 for Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC Children's).
Morgan Drexen works directly with approximately a dozen charities, both locally in Orange County, CA, and across the United States. The groups include Royal Family KIDS, The Pure Game, the American Red Cross, and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
The United Way of Central Oklahoma says the May Tornado Relief Fund will serve the immediate, intermediate and long-term needs of tornado survivors.
