MetaMetrics Partners With Top Publishing Companies to Provide Quantile Measures for Over Thirty Textbooks

Mathematics Textbooks Ranging for Kindergarten to 10th Grade Receive Quantile Measures to Better Match Students With Appropriate Learning Materials

DURHAM, NC--(Marketwired - Jul 10, 2013) - MetaMetrics®, developer of The Quantile® Framework for Mathematics, recently collaborated with five major publishers to provide Quantile measures for more than 30 new mathematics textbooks that cover materials intended for students in Kindergarten to 10th grade. These textbooks will join over 600 textbooks and 3,500 resources currently measured that can be found using the "Find Your Textbook" search tool available on Quantiles.com. The Quantile Framework for Mathematics is a unique measurement system that uses a common scale and metric to assess a student's mathematical achievement level and the difficulty of specific skills and concepts. The use of Quantile measures can lead to improved mathematics teaching and learning by providing a way to target instruction and monitor student growth toward proficiency standards and the mathematical demands of college and careers.

The recently measured textbooks and their publishers include:

McGraw-Hill Education: Everyday Mathematics (18 books - Grades K-6), Algebra I
Carnegie Learning: Carnegie Learning Math Series (3 books - Grades 6-8)
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt: Texas GO Math! (3 books - Grades 6-8)
Big Ideas Learning®: Big Ideas Math (3 books - Grades 6-8), Algebra I
Pearson: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II

The majority of these textbooks were measured for state textbook adoptions as states are moving toward textbooks aligned with Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM). CCSSM help communicate what is expected of students at each grade level in order to better prepare students to succeed in college and in the workforce.

"The Quantile Framework is an excellent tool to help teachers differentiate mathematics instruction to drive student outcomes," said Christine Willig, senior vice president of products at McGraw-Hill Education. "Providing Quantile measures for our mathematics curriculum supports meaningful implementation of the Common Core State Standards, ensuring that students are prepared for college and their future careers."

By aligning textbooks to the Quantile Framework, students, educators and parents are able to utilize the numerous free tools that MetaMetrics provides to support differentiated instruction, including the "Math Skills Database," "Find Your Textbook," "Quantile Teacher Assistant," "Math@Home," and the most recently developed program, the "Summer Math Challenge."

"By measuring the lessons in a textbook using the Quantile Framework, students and teachers are able to further tailor their learning needs with appropriate mathematical exercises and other materials," said Malbert Smith III, Ph.D., president and co-founder of MetaMetrics. "We're pleased to be working with so many influential educational publishers and add to our growing collection of measured texts. Every opportunity to provide Quantile measures to the classroom brings us a step closer to better educating our students nationwide."

The Quantile Framework differs from other measurement systems in that it evaluates student mathematical achievement and the difficulty of mathematical skills and concepts and places them on the same developmental scale. Quantile student measures describe a student's readiness for instruction and indicate which skills and concepts the student is ready to learn and those that may require more background instruction. Educators and parents can use this information to connect the student with resources that are designed to meet his or her unique learning needs and to determine if the student is ready for the demands of college and careers.
