The plaintiff suffered several severe injuries, including those inflicted on his back that required hospitalization, extensive observation, ongoing rehabilitation and a lengthy protocol of medication. The plaintiff was unable to work for a period of time and he incurred medical costs, lost income and pain and suffering as forms of damages that were being pursued by the lawsuit at issue. The court documents argued that the defendant should have to pay for those damages because he allegedly caused the crash.
