PORTLAND, ME--(Marketwired - Jul 29, 2013) - EnviroLogix announced today that it has signed a letter of intent with Douglas Scientific regarding the distribution of DNAble® v2.0 chemistry and Douglas Scientific's innovative Array Tape™ Platform to provide a disruptive and complete solution for high-throughput laboratories currently using PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) technologies. Under the terms of this agreement, Douglas Scientific will represent and distribute the DNAble chemistry solution in its existing and future Array Tape laboratory automation platforms including the high-throughput Nexar® system. Additionally, the companies have agreed to a cross-distribution agreement for new technologies under collaborative development.
DNAble is a very rapid, highly specific isothermal nucleic acid amplification technology that can amplify both RNA and DNA targets with single base resolution a billion-fold in 5-10 minutes at a single and constant temperature. The proprietary chemistry produces highly specific, rapid, multiplexed, quantitative results rivaling quantitative PCR tests (qPCR). Unlike PCR, DNAble can amplify a target sequence from a crude sample preparation in 20 minutes or less.
The Nexar system integrates liquid handling, sealing, amplification, detection, and data analysis in an inline, modular system. The instrument enables end-point and real-time isothermal reactions in Array Tape with small volume reactions (1.6 µL). Array Tape is a continuous polymer strip, serially embossed with reaction wells in customized volumes and formats. With miniaturized reaction wells, this thin (0.3 mm) and flexible solution allows 200 microplate equivalents (76,800 reaction wells) to be spooled onto a single, compact reel. It is an automated, adaptable microplate replacement for high throughput screening.
The combined technologies provide a fast, cost effective, and robust solution for high-throughput genetic analysis that significantly simplifies sample preparation, decreases cost per sample, and increases sample throughput.
When asked about the partnership with EnviroLogix, Craig McLain, Vice President of Business Operations for Douglas Scientific said, "PCR changed the course of scientific discovery in a profound way. DNAble holds the promise of delivering a similar transformational change. We're excited with the opportunity presented through this alliance and the new avenues it provides in our quest to make the world a better place. Adding a transformative chemistry like DNAble to our already disruptive offering of automation technology and consumables moves us one step closer in our goal to provide the market with an end to end solution. We are excited about the extension of our relationship and collaboration with EnviroLogix and the benefit this tight collaboration can provide to both parties."
"Douglas Scientific and EnviroLogix will team together to provide our customers with complete solutions for their applications. This announcement is the first of many that will solidify our joint commitment to serve the full range of customer needs. We are thrilled to be strengthening our union with an outstanding company like Douglas Scientific," said Dean Layton, Senior Vice President Marketing, Sales and Business Development, of EnviroLogix Inc.
