Huntsville Plastic Surgeon Compares His Practice With Recently Released 2012 ASAPS Statistics

Dr. David Durst Looks at How Surgical and Non-Surgical Trends at His Private Practice Match Up With National Statistics

HUNTSVILLE, AL--(Marketwired - Aug 6, 2013) -  Plastic surgeon Dr. David L. Durst performs a wide array of cosmetic procedures at the Cosmetic Surgery Center of Huntsville. In addition to surgical procedures such as breast augmentation, eyelid surgery, and liposuction, Dr. Durst also offers nonsurgical procedures including Juvederm™ and BOTOX®. When examining the data recently released by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) for 2012, Dr. Durst notices many correlations with his own practice.

According to ASAPS, the top three surgical procedures of 2012 were breast augmentation, liposuction, and tummy tuck. Dr. Durst reports similar results, saying that at the Cosmetic Surgery Center of Huntsville, the most popular surgical procedures of 2012 were:

Both ASAPS and Dr. Durst found BOTOX® and dermal fillers to be the top two nonsurgical procedures of last year. Dr. Durst also adds that laser vein treatment is a very popular procedure. He notes that because of the location of his Alabama cosmetic surgery practice, his patients participate in a lot of outdoor activities during the long spring, summer, and fall seasons. As a result, many patients wear shorts for a large portion of the calendar year and do not want visible leg veins. In addition, facial veins have the ability to make a patient look significantly older than they actually are.

ASAPS and Dr. Durst also both report that most patients seeking cosmetic procedures fall within the age range of 35-50. In response to the statistic, Dr. Durst says: "I believe this group of people probably get more cosmetic surgery because many patients under 35 have younger children and may not be able to afford surgery, either from the standpoint of their finances or the necessary recovery time." From his experience, by the time these same patients reach early middle age, they are better able to afford cosmetic procedures.

Regarding the total number of cosmetic procedures performed, which has increased steadily since 1997, Dr. Durst thinks that there is an increasing interest in patients trying to look their best and using professional cosmetic enhancement as a means to accomplish their physical goals. "I think media influence has made the general public more aware of what cosmetic surgery can and cannot do," says Dr. Durst. "Procedures have been improved to shorten recovery periods so patients feel they can justify the recovery time. Also, since more and more people are working from home, finding time off for surgery and recovery out of the public eye is not as much of a complication as it has been in the past."
