NorthStar Ford Calgary & Cochrane Raise $71,500 for Red Cross and Bowness Community in Response to Alberta Floods

CALGARY, AB--(Marketwired - Aug 14, 2013) - Marty Giles, dealer principal of NorthStar Ford Group, announced on July 1, 2013 that he would donate $500.00 per car sold in the month of July to the Red Cross and Bowness Community Association to aid in the Southern Alberta Flood Relief effort. The goal was to sell 120 cars in the month of July and raise $60,000. NorthStar Ford Group surpassed the goal by more than 15 percent, raising $71,500.00 toward the Southern Alberta Flood Relief Fund. Half of the proceeds will go the Red Cross and the other half to Bowness Community Association.

Giles said, "We thank Southern Albertans for their tremendous support in this effort.  My family was hit by the flood, and like many others, we were devastated by the destruction. At work, we asked a question that if we donated $500 from every new car sale, how much could we give back to the community we work and play in? We now have an answer: NorthStar Ford in Calgary and Cochrane would donate $71,500 to be split between the Bowness Community Association and the Red Cross. One of the core values of NorthStar Ford Group is that we must support the community that supports us," said Giles.

Derek Podlubny, president of Bowness Community Association, said, "We would like to thank NorthStar Ford Group and Marty Giles for this generous donation, his support is greatly appreciated by Bownesian's. Many families in the community of Bowness were adversely affected by the June flooding.  This donation will go a long way in helping the Community Association provide the services Bowness residents require at this time."

In June, heavy rainfall triggered extreme flooding in Alberta, killing four people and displacing 100,000 others. In Calgary, schools and offices were closed as 75,000 people were evacuated -- the largest evacuation in the city's history. Total costs for flood damages have been estimated to be between $3 billion and $5 billion.
