CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - Sep 5, 2013) - Terry Howerton, co-founder of TechNexus, a venture collaborative, has been elected to the board of directors of the National Business Incubation Association ("NBIA"). His three-year term will begin October 1, 2013.
The NBIA is the world's leading organization advancing business incubation and entrepreneurship, with approximately 2,200 members in about 60 countries (25% of its membership is located outside the US). Its information, advocacy, and networking resources have enabled and supported the success of thousands of early-stage companies since its founding in 1985.
TechNexus is where business innovators collaborate. It's Chicago's largest new tech workspace, anchor of a nascent million square foot innovation district, and host to a nationwide, open ecosystem linking companies with the people, ideas, and opportunities that yield ventures to disrupt industries and build new ones. In 2012, it was recognized as one of America's top startup business incubators by Forbes.
"I'm looking forward to serving on the NBIA board," said Howerton, "especially during this time of growth and change in the way incubators operate. There's no shortage of entrepreneurs with big ideas and dreams, but our nation's industries face chronic, unmet needs for solutions to real business challenges, both immediate and longer-term. The opportunity is for incubators to work with businesses to identify these issues and focus their not inconsiderable talents on solving them.
"There's also a real opportunity for TechNexus and Chicago's business community to engage in the industry's evolution. I intend to use my presence on the board to bring the development interests of our entrepreneurial clients to a much larger national community of NBIA members and, conversely, enable our established company clients to find, collaborate, and even invest in great ideas wherever they might arise around the world."
"As a leader in the emerging entrepreneurial ecosystem that features collaboration, creativity and new ways of building companies, NBIA is pleased to have Terry join our international association at the board level," said Jasper Welch, NBIA president and CEO. "NBIA is fortunate to have board members such as Terry, who will contribute to the industry's leadership and growth. Throughout NBIA's history, collaboration among our members and our board has led to the development of industry best practices that incubator managers use to successfully launch emerging companies around the world."
