Annapolis Dentist Attends IACA Conference to Expand Holistic Expertise

Dr. Yasaman Roland Reports the Latest Findings on Natural Ozone Sterilization and the Connection Between Diet, Oral Health, and Overall Wellness

ANNAPOLIS, MD--(Marketwired - Sep 17, 2013) - At the Center for Innovative Dentistry and Facial Aesthetics, Annapolis dentist Yasaman Roland, DDS does not limit her focus to oral health, but takes into account the connection between the health of the mouth and the health of the rest of the body. Recently, Dr. Roland traveled to the 2013 International Association of Comprehensive Aesthetics (IACA) Conference to expand her knowledge on dental practices that pay close attention to comprehensive body wellness.

In a recent series of blog posts, Dr. Roland discussed her academic ambitions before traveling to the conference and then outlined what she had learned upon her return. The first installment, titled "What I Hope to Take Away From the Upcoming IACA Conference," highlighted Dr. Roland's main goal of incorporating new sciences into her treatments that complement the type of holistic dentistry she focuses on at her practice. Among the topics Dr. Roland said she was most excited to study were the ways in which Ozone (O3) can be used to prevent and sterilize oral bacteria, as well as the role nutrition plays in the connection between oral health and body wellness.

The second installment of the blog series, titled "What I Took Away from the Recent IACA Conference," relays what Dr. Roland ended up learning from the conference. In regard to Ozone treatments, she says, "By using Ozone in conjunction with dental treatments, a much cleaner environment and better outcome for long term results can often be achieved ... I learned a great deal about implementing this technique into my practice, and I really look forward to using it soon."

As for nutrition's impact on oral and bodily health, Dr. Roland reports in the blog post that people with food sensitivities may not be aware that they are not digesting certain foods properly. In addition to triggering mold and bacteria that can circulate throughout the body, Dr. Roland cautions her patients that "undigested food can trigger autoimmune disease, ultimately inhibiting the immune system from fighting off harmful bacteria in the mouth."

Other topics that interested Dr. Roland at the conference were the use of customized oral appliances to treat sleep apnea, as well as non-narcotic sedation dentistry. As a final note on the IACA conference and her time spent there, Dr. Roland said, "I think this was a fantastic conference because of all the modern and progressive dental techniques being discussed. In my opinion, there is really no other dental conference like it, and I am already looking forward to next year."
