SACRAMENTO, CA--(Marketwired - Sep 20, 2013) - New York's best and brightest government leaders, agencies and departments received high honors at the 2013 GTC East and Best of New York Awards in Albany, N.Y.
The awards were presented by e.Republic's Center for Digital Government and Government Technology, in partnership with the state of New York.
The annual Best of New York Awards program recognizes state and local government and education organizations for their outstanding contributions, best practices and works of distinction in information technology.
Public-sector leaders and agencies were recognized for their leadership and excellence in creating tech-savvy applications that promote transparency, efficiencies and citizen engagement.
"The state of New York is leading the way with technology innovation in open data, transparency and shared services," said Todd Sander, executive director of the Center for Digital Government. "The Center is pleased to give these efforts the credit they deserve and congratulates all the winners."
Fran Reiter, executive deputy director of State Operations, was presented the third Hugh L. Carey Leadership Award for Outstanding Public Stewardship at the GTC East Executive Reception on Thursday evening. Ms. Reiter was honored for a series of accomplishments in New York state and New York City government, including the implementation of an IT Project Portfolio Management process which will give the state a more comprehensive view of its IT investments and the programs and citizens they serve. She also authored and oversaw the implementation of the Lower Manhattan Revitalization Plan.
Today, at the Best of New York awards, the NYS Office of Information Technology Services won a Best Application Serving the Public award for its transparency portal, open.ny.gov, and three additional awards.
At the ceremony several other agencies and leaders were honored for project excellence with another 33 Outstanding IT Service and Support Awards presented to those dedicated to New York public service.
