Busy October at the Calgary Food Bank


CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Oct. 1, 2013) - Fall is officially here and the holidays are approaching, the first being a season of gratitude with Thanksgiving. Many special events and food drives are taking place this month, all of which will ensure the shelves are stocked and the Calgary Food Bank can meet the needs of Calgarians in the coming weeks.

Calgary Farmers Market 1st Annual Pie Bake-Off

Calgary Farmers Market (510 77 Ave SE)
Vendors from the Calgary Farmers Market will be entering their pie in the 1st annual bake-off to see who will be awarded the trophy for "Best Pie". For a suggested $5 donation, you will have the opportunity to be the critic and taste six seasonally delightful pies. Vote on which is your favorite and you could win a beautiful Calgary Farmers Market gift basket.

Brookfield Topples Hunger
Food domino building at 6:00am; Topple at 10:30am
Chinook Mall
Staff and volunteers from Brookfield Residential will be arriving at Chinook Centre in the early morning hours to create a domino effect course using food items in a unique food-raising effort to topple hunger. Examples of items from the Food Bank's wish list, such as boxed cereal, mac & cheese, crackers and stuffing, will all be used in the domino build. Participants will work together to create a course that is dynamic, incorporating multiple tracks and uphill climbs. Once toppled, the 'dominos' are donated to the Calgary Food Bank.

Trick or Eat
Meal Exchange- University of Calgary
Starting at 5:00pm
Hundreds of students from the UofC will take the streets on Halloween night, dressed in costumes and going door to door collecting non-perishable food items.

We Scare Hunger
Starting at 5:00pm
Have your canned non-perishable food items ready for the ghosts and ghouls who will be scaring up donations.
