4G Americas Announces Bob Calaff as Director of Latin America and Caribbean


BELLEVUE, WA--(Marketwired - Oct 31, 2013) - 4G Americas announced today that Bob Calaff will be the Director of Latin America and the Caribbean for the wireless industry trade association. In his role, Mr. Calaff will be responsible for promoting the successful development of the 3GPP family of technologies (including LTE) throughout the region and communicating the latest advancements in these technologies to key stakeholders, including mobile operators, vendors, regulators, telecommunications organizations, media and analysts.

"4G Americas has been a strong advocate for the development of HSPA and LTE technology throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, with a voice provided by our previous Director, Erasmo Rojas, who is now retiring after 10 years at 4G Americas," stated the association's President, Chris Pearson. "We are excited that Bob Calaff will now lead our efforts in the region and bring his vast experience in the industry's technology and regulatory arenas to help further economic growth and development for the people of Latin America and the Caribbean." 

Mr. Calaff is a wireless technology veteran with twenty years of experience in industry and government circles. He spent twelve years at T-Mobile USA, most recently as Director of Spectrum and Technology Strategy. Prior to T-Mobile, he spent six years at the Federal Communications Commission, holding senior positions in the International Bureau, Wireless Telecommunications Bureau and Office of Engineering and Technology. Earlier in his career, he practiced law in the International Trade group at Powell Goldstein LLP (now Bryan Cave LLP).

Mr. Calaff has been a featured speaker at Andicom, LTE World and the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL) conferences. He served on the 4G Americas Board of Governors from 2006 to 2012 and led technical working groups which resulted in four white paper publications for the association. Mr. Calaff has also been featured in several webinars regarding the wireless industry in Latin America.

Mr. Calaff holds a Juris Doctor degree from Columbia University School of Law, a Master of Public Administration from Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs, and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies from Harvard University. Mr. Calaff is a former President of the Hispanic Bar Association of the District of Columbia, a former Chair of the Wireless Practice Committee of the Federal Communications Bar Association and is fluent in English and Spanish. He is based in Seattle, WA.
