KANSAS CITY, MO--(Marketwired - Nov 25, 2013) - Cyber Monday is just around the corner, but consumers aren't the only ones who should take steps to ensure they have a more secure digital shopping experience. Mark Dryer, president of MDL Technology, LLC, a Kansas City managed service and IT company, recently shared some tech tips that online retailers can take to prepare their businesses and servers for the extra traffic.
Dryer said, "One of the most important things any online retailer can do to prepare for a huge influx of traffic is to make sure all of your company's software is up-to-date and that your employees are well-trained on how to use it. In addition, keeping your hardware clean and maintained goes a long way toward keeping glitches, bugs and other tech troubles away."
IT Business Edge offers some additional tips for online retailers. "Make sure the site's current connectivity limit is burstable. The hosting provider will be able to provide this. Find out how much bandwidth has been used so far in November. If the limit is close then it's best to talk to the host in advance and buy additional bandwidth as it is often cheaper than the rate charged for excess bandwidth," the website advised.
If a problem does arise, IT Business Edge suggests strategically rebooting company servers. "Schedule the reboot over a quiet period as soon as possible, as waiting for the disk check to finish means sales could be going elsewhere."
