LA VERNE, Calif., Dec. 3, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The University of La Verne announced that Provost Greg Dewey will resign his post and assume the presidency of Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in New York.
"Greg has been a committed and respected provost and chief academic officer for the University of La Verne since October 2009," University president Devorah Lieberman said. "In the past four years, Greg has helped our university build stronger academic and co-curricular programs, including the La Verne Experience and the 2020 Strategic Vision."
Lieberman noted that Dewey's presidential appointment is in recognition of his accomplishments as a scholar and an educator. On January 1, Dewey will step down as Provost, but will remain at the university until June 1, 2014, assisting with several key initiatives.
Jonathan Reed, the university's Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, will serve as Interim Provost and Chief Academic Officer, beginning January 1, and Felicia Beardsley will be the Interim Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences.
"Jonathan Reed has an impressive record of scholarship, teaching, service, and commitment to our university's values," Lieberman said. "We are grateful that he will fill this role of Interim Provost, and we are grateful that Dr. Felicia Beardsley has agreed to serve as Interim Dean until a national search effort identifies a permanent provost, most likely by fall 2015."
