Entropic First to Announce Officially-Approved MoCA 2.0 Golden Nodes

Building on Nearly a Decade of MoCA Innovation, Entropic's MoCA 2.0 Golden Nodes Are the Recognized Standard to Which All New MoCA 2.0 Devices Will be Measured Against

SAN DIEGO, Dec. 4, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today at 1:00pm PT, the Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA®) Board of Directors approved the first official MoCA 2.0 Golden Nodes. Upon conclusion of a unanimous vote by the MoCA Board, Entropic (Nasdaq:ENTR), a world leader in semiconductor solutions for the connected home, is first to officially announce Board-approved MoCA 2.0 Golden Node certification. Upon this approval, Entropic's MoCA 2.0 Golden Nodes will be used by National Technical Systems (NTS), the MoCA authorized lab, to execute MoCA certification testing on all MoCA 2.0 devices.

Entropic was first to introduce a complete MoCA 2.0 solution to empower a new revolution in home networking by answering the growing demand for powerful connectivity within the home. As the recognized inventor of MoCA and a pioneer in the technology's development and deployment, Entropic has built on the success of its MoCA 1.1/1.0 products to make MoCA 2.0 the next key enabling technology to deliver a 'no excuses' whole-home network for high definition (HD) and Ultra HD video and streaming media services - all over existing coax in the home.

"The MoCA process for creating Golden Nodes is a very rigorous procedure and is the culmination of a great amount of effort to assure the market adheres to the MoCA 2.0 specification," said Charles Cerino, president, MoCA. "Following the official approval by the MoCA Board of first MoCA 2.0 Golden Nodes today at 1:00pm PT, we congratulate Entropic on its continued MoCA success and leadership in bringing the first officially-approved MoCA 2.0 Golden Nodes to market."

Importance of MoCA 2.0 Golden Node Certification

In order to ensure all MoCA 2.0-enabled home networking devices from global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and technology vendors meet the MoCA standard for quality and interoperability, a certification process is required. This process, established by MoCA, verifies compliance to the MoCA technology specification, which is accomplished primarily through interoperability testing with Golden Nodes. Golden Nodes are MoCA-compliant devices with specific capabilities to support the certification testing, and which go through laborious pre-testing at NTS. All devices that seek certification are tested against the Golden Nodes as part of the certification process.

"Using our MoCA 2.0 Golden Nodes as the official MoCA testing solution at NTS is proof that our technology and experience in MoCA is unmatched," said Matt Rhodes, senior vice president, Global Marketing, Entropic. "Entropic's MoCA 2.0 Golden Nodes are the benchmark for testing interoperability with other MoCA 2.0 connected home devices and will enable a new generation of home networking solutions that will deliver greater throughput, enhanced reliability, new power management features, better security, and backwards interoperability to prior MoCA standards."

About Entropic's MoCA 2.0 Solution

Offered as a complete end-to-end MoCA 2.0 solution with MAC, PHY, analog, RF transceiver and RF front-end functionality, Entropic's MoCA 2.0 system provides more than 400 Mbps of application throughput in its basic configuration and 500 Mbps in Turbo Mode, and is scalable to support 800 Mbps /1 Gbps in channel bonded modes. These capabilities make it the highest performing, 'no excuses' home networking solution available today; delivering more than twice the speeds of prior MoCA solutions. Entropic's solution transforms current coaxial infrastructure into a highly-efficient, affordable and reliably predictable whole-home entertainment network, ready to meet the new video delivery demands required by converging broadcast-broadband networks.

Availability

In addition to Entropic's MoCA 2.0 Golden Nodes being available today at NTS to certify all MoCA 2.0 devices, copies of the Company's Golden Nodes will also be available for purchase to members running self-tests, which is a requirement of the MoCA certification process.
