Medecision Chief Medical Officer Among First to Achieve Clinical Informatics Subspecialty Board Certification

Distinction Reflects Dr. Katherine Schneider's Pioneering Work in Healthcare Transformation

WAYNE, PA--(Marketwired - Jan 7, 2014) -  Medecision, a leader in connected care solutions, announced that Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer Katherine Schneider, M.D., M. Phil, FAAFP, is among an elite group of approximately 400 physicians nationwide to successfully complete the newly created American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) Subspecialty Board Certification Examination in Clinical Informatics. This accomplishment represents mastery of not only core technology systems competencies but also healthcare transformation -- including leadership, change management, quality improvement, evidence-based medicine, and a deep understanding of health systems and clinical workflow. Dr. Schneider adds this distinction to her current Board Certification in Family Medicine.

"Dr. Schneider's successful pursuit of this emerging and transformative specialty in healthcare is a tremendous personal accomplishment and continues her career-long commitment to improving our national healthcare system by improving systems and liberating data," said Deborah M. Gage, president and CEO at Medecision. "Her passion brings value to all of us at Medecision and our clients, helping design clinical applications and technology platforms that make better health, better care and sustainable costs a reality."

Administered by the American Board of Preventive Medicine in October, the Clinical Informatics Board Certification is a new medical specialty. Like Dr. Schneider, physicians pursuing this board certification serve numerous roles including:

  • Chief medical information officers (CMIOs) in various care settings as well as roles within the CMIO's office;
  • Clinical leaders within the health IT vendor space;
  • Academic faculty.

In addition to passing the examination, the Clinical Informatics certification requires a current Board Certification in a clinical specialty such as surgery or internal medicine, a valid state licensure to practice medicine and significant work in clinical informatics over recent years. Dr. Schneider's role at Medecision as well as previous experience leading population health initiatives and a graduate degree in Epidemiology qualified her to sit for this exam, which in the future will require formal fellowship training.

Dr. Schneider will receive her Clinical Informatics certification in January 2014.
