REISA Elects 2014 President-Elect and Officers


INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 22, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- At its first Board meeting of the year, REISA's Board of Directors elected its 2014 officers. Thomas G. Voekler will serve as the 2014 President-Elect. Mark Kosanke of Concorde Financial Group is currently serving as the 2014 REISA President. The other REISA officers elected were: Peter Blum of Ladenburg Thalmann as Vice President; Derek Peterson of Walton International Group as Secretary; and Deborah Froling of Arent Fox as Treasurer. 2013 REISA President Michael Weil of American Realty Capital will remain on the Board as Immediate Past President.

Tom Voekler will serve as President-Elect through December 2014 and will begin a one-year term as President in January 2015. He is the co-founder and managing partner of business operations at Kaplan Voekler Cunningham & Frank, PLC, in Richmond, Va. His legal practice focuses primarily on corporate finance, public and private securities offerings, including private equity and hedge funds and corporate governance issues, with a particular concentration on real estate investment trusts (REITs), 1031 syndications (DSTs) and other public and private offerings of real estate investments. He is a graduate of the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary, and he earned his B.S. in finance at George Mason University.

Peter Blum has been the co-chief executive officer and co-president of Ladenburg Thalmann since December 2011. Previously he served as the head of capital markets at Ladenburg Thalmann and as its head of investment banking. Derek Peterson is senior vice president of business development for Walton International Group and on the board of directors for Walton Securities, Inc. managing broker-dealer. He has been in the financial services since 1988 as a licensed representative. Prior to joining Walton, Peterson was chief marketing officer for a leading REIT sponsor and sales management for equipment leasing firm. Deborah Froling is a member of Arent Fox's corporate/securities and real estate groups in the Washington, D.C., office. She has extensive experience in public and private offerings of debt, equity and convertible securities as both issuer's and underwriter's counsel, primarily for real estate companies, including REITs, tenant-in-common syndications, as well as equipment financing and oil and gas companies. Michael Weil has been the president of American Realty Capital since February 2012. Previously, Weil was senior vice president of sales and leasing for American Financial Realty Trust, where he was responsible for the disposition and leasing activity for a 37.3 million square foot portfolio. REISA's 2014 officers join the other remaining Board of Directors: Dr. Randy Anderson, CBRE; Fred Baerenz, AOG Wealth Management; Mike Bendix, DFPG Investments; Barbara Halper, FactRight; Keith Lampi, Inland Private Capital Corporation; Shim Plotkin, Plotkin Financial; Brad Updike, Mick & Associates; and Todd Van Pelt, Cambridge Investment Research. Darryl Steinhause, DLA Piper, serves the board as its legal counsel.
