FRANKLIN, TN--(Marketwired - Jan 26, 2014) - Naxos and three of its distributed labels won awards at the 56th annual GRAMMY® Awards ceremony at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.
Best Classical Instrumental Solo was won for the Naxos recording of John Corigliano's Conjurer - Concerto for Percussionist and String Orchestra, with solo percussionist Evelyn Glennie and the Albany Symphony conducted by David Alan Miller.
The Minnesota Orchestra under Osmo Vänskä won Best Orchestral Performance, for their BIS recording of Sibelius Symphonies 1 & 4. This CD confirms this orchestra's position among the North American elite ensembles.
Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance was won by the New Amsterdam Records CD Roomful of Teeth. Roomful of Teeth's performance in the GRAMMY® pre-telecast was one of the musical highlights of the ceremony.
Finally, Best Classical Compendium was won by the Ondine recording of the Hindemith works Violinkonzert, Symphonic Metamorphosis and Konzertmusik. This CD features conductor Christoph Eschenbach and violin soloist Midori.
