Get Strength and Versatility with
CPVC-Aluminum Hybrid Piping Technology

CLEVELAND, January 29, 2014  - Engineered with FlowGuard® Bendable Multilayer technology from The Lubrizol Corporation, ServiceGuard(TM) Composite Pipe is a hybrid piping solution that combines the performance benefits of chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) technology and the strength and durability of aluminum. Lubrizol recently entered into a technology agreement withUnderground Solutions, an infrastructure technology and pipeline rehabilitation company, to deliver the new water service line material to the construction industry.

Ideal for new construction as well as HDPE or copper replacement, contractors can depend on ServiceGuard's superior performance. Thanks to Lubrizol's FlowGuard Bendable Multilayer technology, ServiceGuard offers an excellent combination of flexibility and rigidity, providing an easily workable pipe that will hold shape and can be installed without expensive tools or torches.

Additionally, ServiceGuard allows for installation using trenchless methods with its resistance to rock impingement, superior crush strength and tensile strength, making it ideal for pull-in methods of water line replacement or repair. Already used in more than 35 projects, including the Las Vegas Valley, Raleigh, N.C., and Savannah, Ga., ServiceGuard is a proven and trusted solution.

"We identified a particular need in the water service line market for a material that was not subject to oxidative degradation in the presence of chlorine-based disinfectants like polyethylene pipe, but would be less expensive and easier to work with than copper tube," explains Bo Botteicher, a piping engineer with Underground Solutions. "It was within this framework that we discovered Lubrizol's FlowGuard Bendable product and saw the opportunity it presented for water service line applications."

Through its unique combination of CPVC and aluminum, ServiceGuard, made with FlowGuard Bendable Multilayer technology , offers superior corrosion and oxidative degradation resistance, long-term UV resistance, and superior resistance to kinking and flattening to comparable copper tube.

"We're thrilled to announce the availability of this solution that is the ideal system for water service line projects," said John Nunnari, general manager, Lubrizol CPVC. "Our customers can always expect a quality system with Lubrizol CPVC, and ServiceGuard Composite Pipe is another product they can depend on."

ServiceGuard Composite Pipe is NSF 61 approved and is made in accordance with ASTM F2855. It is approved for use with standard AWWA C800 compression fittings, offering a wide range of applications.

"FlowGuard Bendable, as a composite pipe, combines the best aspects of each material in its multilayer composition-CPVC for durability, corrosion resistance, light weight, and ease of handling; aluminum for bendability, rigidity, and strength," Botteicher continues. "With its flexibility and resistance to chemicals and aggressive water and/or soil conditions, compared to the other popular piping products currently available for the service line market, it represents the perfect balance of capability and value."
