Canadian North Spreads its Northern Wings Adding New Flights and Service Offerings

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Feb. 27, 2014) - Canadian North announces its multi-tiered growth plan that reaffirms its commitment as the leading airline in the North. Continued growth and support of Northern travellers on Canadian North's scheduled passenger and cargo services has created new opportunities for expansion. The airline is proud to be offering the following enhancements:

• Introduction of a seasonal, non-stop service between Iqaluit and Halifax, Nova Scotia, with same-plane service to St John's, Newfoundland, effective June 20.
• Reintroduction of a new cargo aircraft from Ottawa to Iqaluit, effective March 19.
• Reinstatement of a free luggage allowance of two bags at 70lbs (33kg) each for all jet passengers, effective immediately.

Canadian North will utilize the Boeing 737-300 aircraft, configured with 136 seats, to serve the new Iqaluit to Halifax and St John's routing that will operate every Friday from June 20 to September 5. The following schedule will be available:

• Flight 400 departs St. John's NF to Halifax NS at 12:00 arriving at 13:15
• Flight 400 departs Halifax NS to Iqaluit NU at 14:00 arriving at 16:15
• Flight 401 departs Iqaluit NU to Halifax NS at 17:15 arriving at 21:30
• Flight 401 departs Halifax NS to St. John's NF at 22:15 arriving at 00:25

Depending upon the level of support for this new service, flights could be expanded and/or the season extended. In addition to the superior amenities Canadian North is traditionally known for such as complimentary seat selection, luggage allowance and hot meals, the 737-300 aircraft also offers free inflight entertainment and new leather seating. The additional cargo aircraft will be a 727-200, operated by Cargojet, from Ottawa to Iqaluit each Wednesday, beginning March 19. The all-freight aircraft will be a great addition to the market with a cargo capacity of up to 48,000 lbs (21772kg). Canadian North's luggage allowance is now two free bags up to 70 lbs (33kg) each on all jet aircraft, including connecting flights. Those flying solely on turboprop aircraft, such as the Dash 8 or Beech 1900, will be allowed two free bags up to 50lb (23kg) each.
