Inaugural Four Winds Invitational 5K Run and Fitness Walk to Be Held on Sunday June 15

SOUTH BEND, IN--(Marketwired - Apr 21, 2014) - The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and its Four Winds® casinos, are pleased to announce a new 5K Run and Fitness Walk that will kick-off a week of festivities leading up to the 2014 Four Winds Invitational. The inaugural Four Winds Invitational 5K Run and Fitness Walk will be held at Blackthorn Golf Club on Sunday, June 15. All proceeds from the event and the golf tournament will be donated to Memorial Children's Hospital. More than $109,500 from the Four Winds Invitational has been donated to the Hospital over the past two years.

"Each year, the Four Winds Invitational has grown to include new events for families and community members to get involved with the tournament," said John Warren, Chairman of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians. "We are pleased to add the 5K Run and Fitness Walk, which will offer participants a chance to raise money for a worthy cause."

The starting point for the 5K Run and Fitness Walk is at 3575 Moreau Ct., which is the back entrance to Blackthorn Golf Club. The 5K Run and Fitness Walk will be held on the cart paths of the scenic and one-of-a-kind 5K course. The 5K Run will start at 8 a.m. and the Fitness Walk starts at 8:05 a.m. The Fitness Walk is non-competitive and will not be timed. Participants will receive a goodie bag, including an official t-shirt. There will also be post-event snacks and festivities.

Participants can take advantage of early bird registration through Sunday, June 8 and sign up for the 5K Run for $25 or the Fitness Walk for $20. The cost for late registration is $30 for the 5K and $25 for the Fitness Walk. Those that register late are not guaranteed a t-shirt. Pre-event packet pick-up and late registration will occur on the covered patio area near Blackthorn Golf Club's clubhouse from noon to 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday, June 15 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. If you have any questions about the event, please contact the race director Tim Firestone at tfirestone@blackthorngolf.com. The 2014 Four Winds Invitational will be held from Friday, June 20 through Sunday, June 22, at Blackthorn Golf Club, located at 6100 Nimtz Parkway, South Bend, Ind. The tournament will feature a field of professional women golfers from around the world competing on the Symetra Tour -- Road to the LPGA. Cydney Clanton, of Concord, N.C., won the 2013 tournament on the seventh playoff hole.
