LENEXA, Kan., May 13, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mediware Information Systems, Inc., a provider of comprehensive cellular therapy software solutions, and Save The Cord Foundation have teamed up. Together they will provide the cellular therapy industry an exclusive speaker series focused on scientific topics, industry news and thought-leader opinions. The new partnership, called "Share the Science", will offer a series of webinars, presented by cord blood, BMT and cellular therapy industry professionals, on the latest advancements in science and the industry.
The first event of the series will feature Dr. Joanne Kurtzberg, M.D., Director, Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant Program; Chief Scientific and Medical Officer, Robertson Clinical and Translational Cell Therapy Program; Director, Carolinas Cord Blood Bank; and Co-Director, Stem Cell Laboratory, Duke University. The webinar will focus on cord blood transplantation for genetic and acquired brain diseases and the clinical trials associated with her particular work.
Mediware and Save The Cord are striving to provide the industry with relevant scientific information that is easily accessible. "Over the past two decades, cord blood banking and transplantation has been established as an important graft source for hematopoietic reconstitution for patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for treatment of life-threatening malignant and genetic diseases," said Dr. Kurtzberg. "It also has enormous potential for future uses in regenerative medicine." Kurtzberg noted this webinar will provide an extensive review of the history and future potential of the cord blood field.
"We are very excited to be working with Mediware for this event," said Charis Ober, Founder of Save The Cord Foundation. "This is a great opportunity for a non-profit, vendor and the scientific medical community to collaborate and share the science for the common good of the cellular therapy business."
Dr. Kurtzberg's webinar, the first in the series, on cord blood transplantation for genetic and acquired brain diseases will take place on Monday May 19, at 11:00 am CST. Register for the event online and read more about the partnership here.
