Cooley Bolsters IP Litigation Practice With Boston Partner Addition

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - May 28, 2014) -  Cooley LLP announced today that Ellen A. Scordino has joined the firm as a partner in its litigation department. She will be a member of Cooley's intellectual property practice group and will be resident in the firm's Boston office.

Scordino, who was named a "40 Under 40" honoree by the Boston Business Journal in 2012, and a "Top Women of The Law" by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly in 2013, joins Cooley from Fish & Richardson, where she focused her practice on patent infringement litigation and counseling. In addition to her considerable track record litigating cases related to pharmaceuticals, biotechnologies and various medical devices, Scordino brings to Cooley deep experience in the area of Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDA).

"Ellen's addition to our IP litigation team evidences the continuing evolution of our market-leading practice. Not only is Ellen an experienced and well-rounded litigator and counselor, she brings additional depth and breadth in ANDA matters that will be of particular value to our unparalleled roster of life sciences clients," said Jim Brogan, chair of Cooley's IP practice.

Scordino's arrival follows closely on the heels of the recent additions to Cooley's Boston and New York offices of leading life sciences partners Ivor Elrifi and Heidi Erlacher. Elrifi and Erlacher came to Cooley from Mintz Levin, where Elrifi co-chaired that firm's intellectual property practice. They have been joined by a growing team of ten attorneys, patent agents and technical advisors.

Cooley's IP practice, which works with innovative clients ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies, excels at delivering sophisticated legal strategies in patent, copyright, trademark, false advertising, licensing, ITC Section 337, and trade secret matters. In both 2012 and 2013, Cooley's growing IP practice was named to The National Law Journal's "IP Hot List," which identifies the nation's leading IP law firms. Cooley also ranked fifth in Corporate Counsel's 2013 Patent Litigation Survey.

Scordino received her B.S. in Chemistry from Trinity College and her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law. Prior to her legal career, she was a research scientist at Purdue Pharma LP and a chemist at Copley Pharmaceuticals.

"Joining Cooley was a natural next step in the evolution of my practice given the firm's reputation for exceptional work across the full range of IP and life sciences matters, from patent counseling and prosecution through high-level and complex litigation matters," said Ellen Scordino.
