Why Butter is Better: Nutrition Conference Focuses on Healthy Fats, Traditional Foods

International Wise Traditions 2014 to be held in Indianapolis

Indianapolis, Indiana, May 29, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Scientists and educators will explore the health benefits of traditional fats like butter and coconut oil at Wise Traditions 2014, the 15th annual conference of the Weston A. Price Foundation (WAPF).

The health and nutrition conference is coming to Indianapolis on November 7-9, 2014.  "Focus on Food" is the weekend's theme and the event offers good news for those who are ready to turn away from low-fat and other fad diets and return to the wholesome and nutritious foods of our ancestors.

"The anti-saturated fat agenda is crumbling," says Sally Fallon Morell, President of WAPF. "This conference will highlight the science that supports the need for traditional fats in the diet, for everything from hormone production to weight loss to protection against cancer and heart disease."

The Weston A. Price Foundation, is a non-profit education foundation focused on promoting traditional foods rich in essential nutrients. The conference is open to the public and is widely attended by health-conscious families as well as farmers, chefs, journalists and health professionals from throughout the world.

During the weekend, attendees will have a chance to participate in life-changing lectures, cooking demonstrations and exhibits showcasing local foods, nutritional supplements and holistic therapies. Seminars will discuss traditional fats and food preparation techniques, vegetarian vs. omnivorous diets, testing for nutritional deficiencies, holistic health, non-toxic farming, exercise and basic cooking techniques.

For those who want an in-depth look at the nutrition research of Dr. Weston A. Price, participants can attend Friday's full day seminar on traditional diets by Sally Fallon Morell, president of the Weston A. Price Foundation. Dr. Weston A. Price, an early 20th-century pioneer in nutrition research, discovered the vital importance of animal fat to human health.

The rest of the weekend is packed with presentations led by engaging speakers including: Dr. Stephanie Seneff, an MIT senior research scientist who asks whether pesticides, antibiotics, vaccines and pharmaceuticals are the cause of our current health crisis; Lierre Keith, the author of The Vegetarian Myth who argues that saving the planet cannot be achieved by refusing to eat animals; and Dr. Kaayla Daniel, an entertaining  nutritionist who examines how traditional bone broth contributes to physical and emotional health.

Full and one-day registrations are available; the registration fee includes admission to the lectures and exhibit hall. In addition, attendees can purchase tickets to breakfast fundraisers held each morning for the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund. Proceeds go to support legal efforts on behalf of family farms and artisan food producers subject to unlawful government interference in the sale of farm foods. Attendees staying through Monday, November 10, can buy additional tickets to bonus activities including a farm tour, cooking demonstrations, a raw milk symposium and more.
