BETHESDA, MD--(Marketwired - Jun 4, 2014) - GetWellNetwork®, Inc., the leader in Interactive Patient Care™ (IPC) solutions, today announced the debut of GetWell Labs™, a research and development initiative that serves as an incubator for disruptive patient and family engagement technologies. More than 20 technologies have already been evaluated as potential first generation candidates for the GetWell Labs program. Selected candidates will participate in market research and accelerated development and testing of patient engagement solutions in areas such as mobility, assistive technologies and asynchronous video.
"We need to accelerate the impact of patient and family engagement on patient outcomes, and our open, cross-continuum platform enables us to move faster than ever before in bringing new technologies to market," said Michael O'Neil, founder and CEO of GetWellNetwork. O'Neil introduced GetWell Labs to an audience of health care executives and clinicians today in Chicago during the company's annual user conference, GetConnected. "GetWell Labs will bring the future faster to engage patients and families in new ways and help our health system clients build upon the exceptional outcomes they are already achieving."
GetWell Labs provides companies with infrastructure and market expertise, along with access to GetWellNetwork's extensive research capabilities and blue-chip client community. Tools showing positive impact on patient outcomes will be integrated into GetWellNetwork's cross-continuum platform, and in some cases embedded in its library of proprietary Patient Pathways™ workflows.
The first two companies selected for the GetWell Labs program are Marbella Technologies™, based in Encinitas, Calif., and ViiMed, based in Washington, D.C. Marbella's real-time mobile surveying technology enables providers to gather patient feedback during rounding, in the emergency department and from other locations within the health care facility. ViiMed's asynchronous video technology allows physicians to do remote post-operative consultations with patients, enhancing physician productivity and supporting patients in transitions of care.
"GetWellNetwork provides the best platform to support new products that enable patient engagement in any setting," explained David Bennett, executive vice president and chief operating officer of GetWellNetwork. "GetWell Labs offers the resources and environment to help early-stage companies achieve in six months what would otherwise take two years. We look forward to working with our GetWell Labs participants to continue providing our clients with new technology so that patients can have the best health care experience possible."
