REDWOOD CITY, CA--(Marketwired - Jun 9, 2014) - Cloudcheck®, a product of ASSIA, Inc., a leading solutions company for broadband service providers, today launched its first Indiegogo campaign designed to bring intelligence to consumer wireless routers and highlight the public's need for visibility into, and control of, internet connectivity and Wi-Fi performance (www.cloudcheck.net).
Today's U.S. homes average 6.6 connected devices and this number is expected to double by 20171. Streaming movies, playing interactive video games, using tablets to watch YouTube and video chat are driving up Wi-Fi use in the home, and affecting streaming quality. Yet today's off-the-shelf router and networking solutions offer the same cookie-cutter capabilities, differentiated only by performance and price, and provide no visibility into solving Wi-Fi connectivity issues.
"As the Internet of Things materializes and the number of connected devices continues to grow exponentially within the average home, consumers are increasingly frustrated with the performance of their internet and Wi-Fi connections," said John Cioffi, CEO of ASSIA, Inc. "Instead of consumers spending hours on the phone with customer service trying to resolve those issues, it's time to deliver smart devices that give those consumers the connected experience they expect. Cloudcheck technology, rooted in ASSIA's long history of providing monitoring and diagnostic solutions to the world's largest broadband companies, will put consumers firmly in the driver's seat when it comes to managing their home network."
Technology Highlighted in the Indiegogo Campaign
Today, off-the-shelf Wi-Fi routers offer no ability for consumers to monitor, diagnose or manage dynamically their connection. In addition, since Wi-Fi is a shared medium, claims of higher performance through new physical layer technologies by router manufacturers fall short as the number of connected devices increases and interference between Wi-Fi systems can increase.
ASSIA is highlighting its Cloudcheck technology and the need to have router manufacturers enable the Cloudcheck services via the Indiegogo campaign. Using simple diagnostics, executed via the Cloudcheck application, consumers can determine whether they can make any improvements, empowering consumers to optimize their home Wi-Fi. When a consumer finds potential performance improvements, he or she will simply opt into a monthly service, available later this year, called Smartifi that automatically monitors, and continuously improves, Wi-Fi performance across the home network. This consumer SAAS solution can be easily integrated into any router manufacturer's software, allowing the agent to connect to the Cloudcheck cloud server, which then adds intelligence to the router and enables monitoring and optimization to happen automatically.
"Router manufacturers, content providers, and internet service providers will benefit from the Cloudcheck solution," said Cioffi. "We believe our Indiegogo supporters will help communicate the importance of consumers having a cloud based monitoring and optimization solution that discovers and removes performance bottlenecks any time day or night, without requiring a service call."
Indiegogo Cloudcheck Campaign Details
The Cloudcheck campaign is also designed to bring attention to the groundswell of consumer pain caused when multiple connected devices in a home are used simultaneously to communicate, watch videos or movies, and even work. The result of overloading a home broadband connection is well known: the movie stops/starts/buffers, the VoIP phone connection degrades/drops, and the quality of a FaceTime conversation is poor or the line drops. Supporters of the Indiegogo campaign will receive a significant discount on any pre-purchase of monthly service fees on the Smartifi service that is designed to help resolve these quality of service issues without having to call tech support.
Today, consumers can download a free version of the Cloudcheck diagnostics application called "Cloudcheck," which automatically and independently measures Wi-Fi, broadband, and content server link speeds to help determine the slowest link. The application is available immediately from the Apple App (iOS) or Google Play (Android) stores and can be found at www.cloudcheck.net.
