SACRAMENTO, Calif., June 23, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Intelligent Highway Solutions, Inc. (OTCQB:IHSI), announced today a shipment of low energy, low heat and highly efficient LED lights to FV Pharma of Canada. FV Pharma has applied to become a licensed commercial producer of marijuana under the new Canadian medical marijuana legislation.
The Canadian company is transforming a former Kraft food factory, formerly known as the Cobourg Innovation Centre, into a state-of-the-art licensed facility for growing and harvesting medical marijuana. The facility will be located in Cobourg, Ontario, a small town one hour east of Toronto founded in the late 1700's.
Medical marijuana became legal in Canada in 2000 when a landmark ruling overturned the prohibition of marijuana, thus allowing the growing of marijuana for medical purposes. There are over 40,000 patients in Canada that are authorized to use marijuana for medical purposes and that number is expected to increase to almost 400,000 over the next 10 years. More than 5,000 doctors throughout Canada have prescribed marijuana to patients for medical purposes and that number as well as the number of medical marijuana patients are both expected to increase exponentially. The Canadian Marijuana for Medical Purposes Regulations allows medical marijuana to be recommended as a treatment for many conditions.
