Algae Biomass Organization Announces Preliminary Agenda for 8th Annual Algae Biomass Summit in San Diego, CA

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - Jun 26, 2014) - The Algae Biomass Organization (ABO), the trade association for the algae industry, announced today the preliminary agenda for the 8^th Annual Algae Biomass Summit, unveiling a list of the latest advances in algae commercialization, research and finance that will be discussed at the largest algae technology conference in the world. ABO chose San Diego for the location of the Summit because the region is a major hub for algae research, commercialization and entrepreneurial activity. The Southwest has also recently been shown to have ample land and saltwater resources required to support a robust algae industry.

"Algae is attracting more attention than ever because we are seeing new production facilities come on line and a growing array of algae-derived products, including biofuels, being offered to consumers," said Matt Carr, executive director of ABO. "Our meeting in San Diego will highlight the tremendous progress that algae entrepreneurs, researchers and investors have made around the globe. The Summit comes at a time when the industry is seeing more algae companies successfully moving their laboratory breakthroughs into the marketplace. Many companies are opening large-scale demonstration and pre-commercial facilities, with expectations for expansion in the future. State and national policy makers are also taking notice. ABO has played an active role in advocating for extended advanced biofuels tax credits and encouraging the EPA to include Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) in addition to Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) as an approved strategy for compliance with new emission rules for power plants.

In addition to plenary sessions featuring leading keynotes and panels on the most pressing topics facing the industry, the conference will feature dozens of presentations in breakout sessions organized into four tracks: Biology, Engineering & Analysis, Finance & Policy, and Commercialization.
