HOUSTON and SAN FRANCISCO, July 9, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Tendenci (www.tendenci.com), the software development company spearheading the Tendenci® Open Source Software Platform for associations and other nonprofits (NPOs), today announced plans to significantly expand its presence in the San Francisco Bay Area. The company's Founder and CEO, Ed Schipul, will relocate to guide the company's West Coast initiative, which aims to foster the development of an open source community in support of Tendenci and enhance access to potential investors.
Tendenci was established in Houston more than 16 years ago. Two years ago, the company released the Tendenci software platform as an open source solution to give cause-related organizations greater freedom and control over their online presence. A small number of Gulf Coast jobs have been eliminated as a result of the relocation and realignment of executive resources; however, the company plans to maintain a presence, with a portion of its software development team, website design and administrative capabilities remaining in Houston.
"We love Houston, but it is clear that expanding our presence in the Bay Area will speed up the pace of cultivating a community of open source developers to enhance and improve the Tendenci platform for nonprofits," said Schipul. "We first established a Silicon Valley office in 2011 and we are very excited to ramp up our resources in the Bay Area."
Tendenci also expects an increased presence in the Bay Area will improve its access to potential investors. The company currently is exploring commercial real estate in San Francisco and the surrounding area.
The Tendenci software platform's unique capabilities were purpose-built for cause-related organizations. As an open source solution, the software gives NPOs greater freedom and control over the customization and growth of their online presence. Tendenci makes it easy for associations and NPOs to promote and build support for their mission, generate revenue, and manage and promote events.
Tendenci has more than 1 million users and currently powers hundreds of websites for organizations around the world, including Metropolitan New York Library Council (www.metro.org), Houston Technology Center (www.houstontech.org) and DePelchin™ Children's Center (www.depelchin.org).
