Dr. Jorn Dyerberg of Marine Ingredients Honored With Nutrition Business Journal Lifetime Achievement Award

DANA POINT, CA--(Marketwired - Jul 25, 2014) - Dr. Jorn Dyerberg, medical and scientific adviser to Marine Ingredients, was honored with Nutrition Business Journal's Lifetime Achievement Award at Nutrition Business Journal's (NBJ) 17th annual NBJ Summit awards dinner, July 24, at the St. Regis Hotel Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, California.

"Dr. Dyerberg is the father of omega-3 and this award is long overdue," said Tom Aarts, NBJ Summit co-founder and member of NBJ's Editorial Advisory Board for Lifetime Achievement Awards. "The industry owes him a great deal of gratitude for his discoveries and scientific contributions on the benefits of omega-3 fish oils, which has impacted the lives of millions."

In the past 47 years, Dyerberg has been published more than 350 times in national and international scientific medical journals, primarily concerning blood lipids, atherosclerosis, the blood coagulation system, n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and trans fatty acids, prostaglandins. But it was his groundbreaking discovery published in The Lancet in 1971 that made him a leading authority on the benefits of omega-3 fish oils. The study linked a diet rich in omega-3 fish oils with heart health, something he and his colleague, the late Dr. Hans Olaf Bang, discovered while researching an Inuit population on the coast of Greenland. Since this revelation, the cardiovascular benefits of omega-3 fatty acids docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) have been confirmed by hundreds of other clinical studies.

NBJ also honored other businesses for outstanding achievements. NBJ's Business Achievement Awards recognize the industry's greatest leaders making significant advancements in health, wellness and nutrition (http://newhope360.com/nutrition-business-journal/2014-01-01).

The four-day, sold-out conference featured keynote speakers Simon Sinek on leadership and Dr. David Perlmutter on brain health and the health care crisis. The 18th annual NBJ Summit will take place July 21-24, 2015, at the St. Regis Hotel Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, California. Advance registration is essential (www.nbjsummit.com).
