LEHI, Utah, Aug. 21, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The recent recipient of the Low VA Rates 2014 Fall Military college scholarship is a 12 year combat veteran that prides himself on giving back to the community and helping those that are less fortunate.
Texas native, David Sherman, recently received a $1,250 college scholarship to assist his current educational goals and eventually obtaining a law degree.
Sherman is currently attending the University of Houston and is very active in the local community. He is a volunteer for the Houston civil courts as a mediator and for the IRS and local neighborhood centers as a tax preparer. He also is a regular volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.

The annual LowVARates.com military scholarship is awarded to a college student with a U.S. military background or affiliation. Sherman served honorably in the U.S. military and considers himself a true patriot. He was honorably discharged from the military as a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (E-7).
President of Low VA Rates, Eric Kandell, was very impressed with Sherman's history and accomplishments and was proud to offer him the scholarship. Since Sherman's military career came to an end he has had several challenges and obstacles to overcome. He never uses the obstacles or hard times as an excuse to give up or lower the expectations he has for himself.
"I refuse to let any obstacles or hardships stop me from pursuing my career and educational goals," Sherman said. "I intend on completing my undergrad degree and going on to teach high school while I continue my education and obtain a law degree."
After completion of a law degree, Sherman ultimately wants to offer assistance to individuals caught with legal issues and having a hard time receiving help because of the high costs. His goal is to educate people on how they can gain more knowledge and effectively use the appropriate resources.
The $1,250 will help cover the cost of the 2014 fall semester for David Sherman at University of Houston. Any additional funds will be applied to the 2014-2015 winter semester.
