ALPHARETTA, GA--(Marketwired - Aug 22, 2014) - Bright Light Systems, a leading manufacturer of Light Emitting Plasma (LEP) luminaires, LED luminaires and wireless lighting controls, today announced the completion of a lighting upgrade project at Marin International Airport in San Juan.
As part of the airport expansion and renovation, the Puerto Rico Ports Authority had a mandate to reduce electrical demand. Forty-eight 400 watt high pressure sodium lights had been serving the airport parking facility for decades, and the solution was to replace them with 160 watt plasma BLP400 luminaires from Bright Light Systems (BLS). To maximize savings, the Authority also specified BLS wireless lighting controls with motion sensing capabilities to manage the system at 40% power (102 watts.) The use of an astronomical clock added another 12% energy savings.
"With the high electricity costs in Puerto Rico, we looked to Bright Light Systems to help us reduce our energy consumption," said Randall Corsi, Special Projects Manager, Aerostar Airport Holdings. "The BLP400 LEP luminaires together with Bright Light Management System controls has increased our energy efficiency by 75% while enabling more cost-effective maintenance for the parking area."
BLS Light Emitting Plasma (LEP) luminaires, when specified with BLMS controls, can reduce energy costs by 80%. LEP luminaires also provide increased color recognition, are dimmable to 20%, and carry a lifetime rating of 50,000 hours. John Chalmers, Director of Marketing for Bright Light Systems, concluded, "With the savings we were able to generate, we are pleased that the Authority now has more ability to meet their goal of investing in renewable technologies."
