Industry Experts Offer Insights on Monetizing the "Internet of Things"

Aria Systems Releases Free Resource for Success in New IoT Era; Examines the Business, Social and Practical Implications

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Sep 3, 2014) - The Internet of Things (IoT) promises to create new business models as significant as those that were inspired by the Internet and the smartphone 20 and 10 years ago. What business, social and practical implications will this phenomenon bring? That's the subject of "Monetizing the Internet of Things: Perspectives from the Front Lines," an e-book released today and available free of charge from Aria Systems, the leading innovator in recurring revenue management.

"'Monetizing the Internet of Things' is an invaluable primer for understanding some of the issues that companies will face as they launch into the new IoT era," said Jon Gettinger, vice president of marketing at Aria Systems, and one of the contributors to the e-book.

"Each chapter has been written by experts and professionals who have insight into monetization models that are disrupting traditional commerce models across all economic sectors," added Gettinger. "The authors discuss the challenges and opportunities that arise when developing an IoT strategy."

In addition to Gettinger, a veteran executive with more than two decades in the software industry, other contributors include Brendan O'Brien, co-founder and chief evangelist of Aria Systems and "the father of cloud billing;" Bob Harden, former director of billing solutions at Experian, now founder and principal of The Harden Group; Jeffrey M. Kaplan, managing Director of THINKStrategies and founder of the Cloud Computing Showcase, who will host a cloud summit on the IoT next month; Parker Trewin, senior director of content and communications at Aria Systems; Brian James, senior product marketing director of Aria Systems and Ariane Lindbloom, vice president of solution marketing at ServiceSource.

In the final edition, Aria Systems has added a bonus chapter from Adam Hanft, founder of Hanft Projects, a branding firm based in New York City. The title of his bonus chapter is "Will Connected Devices Disconnect the Family?" and offers insights about the social implications of the IoT.

Gettinger said contributor insights will help companies understand what they must do to prepare for the disruptions caused by the IoT and what steps they must take if they want to participate in the digital gold rush ahead.

The chapters include such topics as "Why the 'Internet of Things' is Important," "Two Ways the 'Internet of Things' Will Unlock Your Customers' Revenue Potential," "The 'Not So Simple Truth' of the IoT," "Personalizing the 'Internet of Things,'" "Pitfalls and Peril on the Road to Nirvana" and "What the IoT Can Learn from Nordstrom."
